GUIDE 05 · HALLOWEEN When Everyone's in Disguise, Stay Sharp
Halloween is brilliant. It's also the one night where facial recognition goes out the window for everyone. That includes us on the door. Here's what you need to know.
BRING ID - YES EVEN IN COSTUME | Masks, heavy face paint, and prosthetics mean we genuinely cannot verify your age from your face on Halloween. Carry photo ID and be patient with door staff they're not being awkward, they're doing their job. |
KEEP VISION CLEAR | Full-face masks that restrict your sight are a genuine hazard in a busy venue or on the street. If you can't see properly, you can't react to what's around you. Opt for face paint or partial masks that keep your vision open. |
WATCH FOR FLAME HAZARDS | Halloween costumes especially billowing capes and wigs are not made like regular clothes and can catch fire terrifyingly fast. Stay well back from candles, fire performers, and even lit cigarettes. Use LED lights, not real flames in your costume. |
WATCH OUT FOR EACH OTHER | In a crowded venue on Halloween, telling your mates apart from strangers is genuinely harder. Agree on a group identifier a specific wristband, colour, or phrase so you can keep track of who's who. |
DON'T HIDE BEHIND A COSTUME | Some people think a costume means anonymity. CCTV doesn't care what you're wearing, and neither do we. Antisocial behaviour, harassment, or assault are still crimes in costume or not. |
SPIKING RISKS SPIKE ON HALLOWEEN | The distraction of costumes and hectic venues makes drink spiking harder to spot. Don't leave drinks unattended and keep an especially close eye on your group if someone seems far more out of it than they should be, act fast and find security. |
