QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
EVENT & FESTIVAL SECURITY SERVICES FAQS
Do I legally need licensed security for my event?
If your event takes place at a licensed premises, you are legally required to use SIA Door Supervisor-licensed staff for anyone carrying out a security role (searching guests, managing entry, ejecting people). For unlicensed private events, it is not a legal requirement but strongly advisable for events over a certain size. We can advise you on your specific legal obligations based on your venue, licence type and event size.
How many security staff do I need for my event?
Industry guidance typically suggests a ratio of 1 security officer per 100–150 guests as a starting point, but the right number depends on your venue layout, the nature of the event, expected alcohol consumption, the audience profile and any specific risk factors. We'll conduct a risk assessment and provide a staffing recommendation as part of your quote.
Can you provide security at short notice for last minute events?
Yes for small scale events and this is something we're known for in Kent. We maintain a pool of experienced event security officers who can be deployed at 24–48 hours notice in most cases. Contact our operations team directly for urgent requests.
What's the difference between a door supervisor and an event steward?
A Door Supervisor holds an SIA licence and is legally authorised to search guests, manage entry to licensed premises and use reasonable physical intervention if required. An Event Steward is not SIA licensed but is trained in crowd safety, event procedures and guest management. Most events benefit from a mix of both: door supervisors at entry and key points, stewards managing the crowd throughout.
Do you work with venues and promoters on an ongoing basis?
Yes. Many of our event clients work with us on a rolling basis regular Friday and Saturday night venue cover, recurring festival and market series, or annual events that need the same team year after year. Ongoing relationships allow us to learn your venue, your guests and your specific requirements.
