QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
DOOR SUPERVISION SERVICES FAQS
Do I legally need a door supervisor at my venue?
If you operate a licensed premises in England and Wales, you are legally required to use SIA Door Supervisor licensed staff for anyone carrying out a security function including searching customers, managing entry, controlling capacity and removing people from the premises. Using unlicensed staff in these roles is a criminal offence under the Private Security Industry Act 2001 and puts your premises licence at risk. If you're uncertain whether your venue requires door supervisors, we're happy to advise based on your licence conditions.
What is the difference between a door supervisor and a security guard?
Both hold SIA licences, but a Door Supervisor licence includes additional training and legal authorisation that a Security Guard licence does not. Door Supervisors are specifically trained and licensed to work at licensed premises they can legally search customers, manage entry to venues, and use reasonable physical intervention where necessary. A Security Guard licence does not authorise these activities at licensed premises. If your venue serves alcohol or operates under a premises licence, you need door supervisors, not security guards.
Can you provide door supervisors at short notice?
Depending on circumstances yes and this is something we're regularly called on to do. Venues often need last minute cover when regular staff call in sick, when an event is booked at short notice, or when unexpected footfall requires additional staffing. We maintain a pool of available, vetted officers across Kent. Contact our operations team directly for urgent requirements.
How do your officers learn our venue's entry policies?
Before any placement, we carry out a site briefing with your management team to understand your venue's specific entry policy, dress code, ID requirements, capacity limits, licence conditions and any known risk factors. This briefing is standard for all new placements. For regular clients, we maintain detailed site notes for each venue so that both regular and relief officers arrive fully briefed, not spending the first hour working things out on your door.
Can I use Akon Security Services for both regular venue cover and one off events?
Yes and many of our clients do exactly this. We provide ongoing regular venue cover (typically Thursday through Sunday for nightlife venues), as well as ad hoc cover for special events, private functions and one off occasions. Clients with a regular contract benefit from consistent teams who know their venue, with relief cover arranged by us when needed so you always have someone in place.
