THE ROLE

19 YEARS OF PROTECTING KENT & LONDON.

Bedwatch Officers provide one to one patient observation and safety support in NHS hospitals and healthcare facilities. The role requires you to sit with patients who are at risk, whether from falls, self-harm, or behavioural challenges providing both a reassuring presence and a professional safety protocol.

This is not a clinical role, but it demands a calm, empathetic, and professional approach. You'll work closely with nursing staff, follow ward protocols, and maintain patient dignity at all times. Shifts are typically 12 hour days or nights.

It's one of the most rewarding roles in our portfolio and one that genuinely makes a difference to the people you support every shift.

BEDWATCH OFFICER

WHO THIS ROLE SUITS

Bedwatch is a role for people who combine professional discipline with genuine compassion. It suits those with backgrounds in healthcare support, care work, or social care, as well as security professionals who want to work in a more person-centred environment. If you're someone who remains calm when others are distressed, can follow strict protocols with precision, and genuinely cares about the welfare of vulnerable people, this role is a strong fit.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

FAQS

Is this a clinical role, will I be expected to provide medical care?

No. Bedwatch is a security and patient observation role, not a clinical one. You do not provide medical care, administer medication, or carry out any nursing function. Your role is to maintain a continuous, reassuring, and safe presence with the patient, observing, documenting, and escalating to nursing staff when required. All clinical decision-making remains with the ward team.

What does a enhanced DBS check cover?

An Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is a thorough background check that includes details of any spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and warnings, as well as information held by local police that is considered relevant. For roles in healthcare settings involving contact with vulnerable adults, an Enhanced DBS is a mandatory requirement, both legally and for our clients. We can support you through the application process if you don't currently hold one.

What are the typical shift patterns?

Bedwatch shifts are typically 12 hours, either days (07:00–19:00) or nights (19:00–07:00). We'll do our best to match shifts to your availability, but flexibility with nights and weekends is important in this role as patient need doesn't follow standard office hours.

Is Bedwatch work available regulary or occasionally?

We have regular Bedwatch requirements from NHS clients across Kent, and this is one of our most consistently in demand specialist services. Officers who perform well in this role are often able to access regular, ongoing shifts. For those who want full-time hours in a healthcare environment, Bedwatch is a strong option.
