What is a key holding service and how does it work?
A key holding service means a licensed security company securely holds a copy of your premises keys on your behalf. When your alarm activates or a lock/unlock service is required, the security company responds rather than you needing to attend personally. At Akon Security, our officers are dispatched immediately on alarm activation, inspect the site, deal with police or fire if required and re-secure the property sending you a full incident report.
Is key holding safer than responding to alarms myself?
Yes, attending your own alarm at night carries personal safety risks and potential legal exposure if you confront an intruder. A professional key holder is trained to assess and respond safely and liaises with police appropriately. It also removes your personal liability as a lone responder. Our officers carry SIA licences and hold conflict management and first aid qualifications.
Do you provide a lock up and open up service too?
Yes. Many of our clients use us for scheduled lock and unlock services particularly retail and hospitality businesses where early starts or late closes mean staff or managers are attending site alone at vulnerable times. We can open up before your team arrives and secure after everyone has left.
How are my keys stored?
Keys are stored securely in compliance with BS 7984 (the British Standard for key holding and alarm response). Critically, keys are never stored with identifiable address information, so even if the storage facility were compromised, your premises could not be linked to the keys. Your security is our priority at every stage.
